What are you trying to do?

Most of our work begins before anybody really knows what the solution looks like.

You might have some land, a building, a boat or a vehicle. Perhaps you want to become less dependent on the grid, make better use of the resources around you, or simply have an idea you're not quite sure how to make work.

Sometimes there's already a system, it just isn't working particularly well.

Sometimes you simply need another pair of experienced eyes on a problem.

That's what we do.

Independent consultancy, design and practical project support, built on more than twenty years of off-grid experience.

Start with the problem.

The solution comes later.

Not every problem needs to become a project. Sometimes an hour spent looking at something properly can save days of work, or money spent solving the wrong problem.

A conversation. A plan. A project.

Bring us the idea.

Turn the idea into something practical.

Turn the idea into something practical.

It could be some land, a building, an existing system, a boat, a vehicle, a problem, or something you've scribbled on the back of an envelope.

We'll ask questions, challenge assumptions and help work out what's realistic.

Sometimes that's all you need.

Consultation · Second opinions · Troubleshooting · Early-stage ideas

Turn the idea into something practical.

Turn the idea into something practical.

Turn the idea into something practical.

We can look at what you need, what you already have and the resources available, then start joining the pieces together.

That might involve feasibility, energy use, system design, comparing technologies or developing a specification and route to delivery.

Feasibility · Design · Energy modelling · Specification · Technical review

Make it happen.

Turn the idea into something practical.

Make it happen.

When it makes sense, we can stay involved through sourcing, technical work, installation support and commissioning.

And when the project needs expertise outside our own, we can bring in trusted specialists from the network we've built over the years.

Project support · Procurement · Specialist labour · Commissioning · Ongoing support

Independent means independent.

We work with some excellent manufacturers and technologies.

We've spent many years finding out what works, what doesn't, and where different approaches make sense.

But we're not here to find somewhere to put a particular piece of equipment.

If something simpler will do the job, we'll say so.

If what you already have can be repaired, adapted or used differently, we'd rather explore that before replacing it.

And if we think an idea doesn't make sense, we'll tell you that too.

Good consultancy should occasionally save you from buying anything at all.

OFF-GRID

OFF-GRID

Homes, farms and the places in between.

Energy, water, buildings and infrastructure rarely exist in isolation.

We look at what a place already has, what it needs, and what it might become, making better use of the resources around it before deciding what needs to be added.

OFF-GRID

Making your own doesn't have to mean going without.

We've been designing and living with off-grid systems for more than twenty years.
Solar, wind, storage, water, heating and controls all have their place. But good off-grid design starts with understanding what you actually need, not the equipment you can fit.

Take a little independence with you.

Campers, horseboxes, expedition vehicles and mobile workspaces are really just small off-grid buildings that move.
The same principles apply: understand what you need, make sensible use of the resources available and keep unnecessary complexity out.

The same thinking, afloat.

Boats came later,  a very good test of everything we'd learned on land.
Space is limited, energy is finite and reliability matters. Our marine work includes onboard energy, renewable generation and electric propulsion for boats designed to depend a little less on diesel and the shore.

Sometimes the best solution isn't ours.

Twenty years teaches you quite a lot. It also teaches you how much you don't know.

Some projects need skills beyond our own. An architect, ecologist, hydrologist, structural engineer, fabricator, electrician or someone with very particular knowledge of a particular problem.

Over the years we've worked with some exceptionally good people, manufacturers and organisations.

Part of our job is knowing when to bring them in.

We can help assemble the right knowledge around a project, work alongside your existing team, or simply point you towards somebody better placed to help. The objective isn't to make Moor & Tide responsible for every part of a project.

It's to get the right result.

Let's talk.

Every project starts somewhere.

If you've got an idea, a problem, a place or simply a question, tell us a little about it.

You don't need a specification or a finished plan.
In fact, we'd rather you didn't.

We'll start with a conversation and see where it takes us.

Visitors by appointment.
