Different problems need different thinking.

Independent consultancy for complex projects on land and water.

We've been doing this for a while.

We are an interdisciplinary consultancy for complex projects on land and water.

For more than twenty years we've designed and built off-grid renewable energy systems for homes, farms and vessels around the world.  Our early work was part of a pioneering period in integrated renewable technology.

There was usually a fairly simple reason for it.

There wasn't a grid connection. So we had to find another way.

Design

Good engineering starts with understanding the problem, not choosing the equipment.

Deliver

Energy, water, buildings, land and technology rarely exist in isolation.

Advise

Independent thinking for difficult decisions, when the conventional doesn't quite fit.

Along the way, off-grid stopped being just something we designed. It became part of how we lived. Living with these systems changed the way we thought about energy, water, resources and our relationship with the natural world.

The technology has changed enormously. So has the world around us.

Renewable energy has become better, cheaper and more accessible. But we don't believe the answer is simply more technology, or replacing everything we have with a greener version of the same thing.

Sometimes the better answer is to use less. Produce energy where we use it. Catch water when it rains. Repair things. Bring old buildings back into use. Look after the land and make better use of the resources around us.

A few decades ago, off-grid engineering was about making things work where conventional infrastructure couldn't.

Today we're asking whether the same thinking can help solve rather bigger problems.

That's where Moor & Tide begins.

Most interesting projects don't begin with a specification. They begin with an idea. Or sometimes a problem.

Sometimes the question is simpler:

Is there a better way of doing this?

That's where we come in. Moor & Tide is an independent consultancy, drawing on more than twenty years of practical experience to help people turn ideas into things that actually work.

We start by understanding what you're trying to achieve, what you already have, and the place you're working with.

The solution comes later.

A conversation

Sometimes you just need someone experienced to sit down with you, ask the right questions and explore what's possible.

A plan

We can turn an idea into something practical, feasibility, concept, design, specification and a route to getting it done.

A project

When it makes sense, we can stay involved through sourcing, delivery and commissioning, bringing in trusted people from our network along the way.

Land & Water

Homes, farms, businesses and remote places.

Energy, water, buildings, workshops and infrastructure, looking at what a place already has and what it might become.

Power generation and storage, water, buildings, infrastructure, mobile systems and practical resilience,  understanding what a place already has, what it needs and how the pieces work together

From water as a resource to life and work afloat.

Water supply, harvesting, storage, treatment and management, from boreholes and rainwater systems to hydro and resilient water infrastructure.

Looking at water as part of the wider system: where it comes from, how it's stored and treated, how it's used, and how it can be managed more intelligently.

What are you thinking about?

You might already have a project in mind.

Perhaps you've found some land. You're renovating a property. Trying to make a farm more independent. Thinking about living off-grid. Converting a vehicle or boat. Or wondering whether an idea you've had for years might actually work.

You don't need to have figured it all out before you talk to us.

In fact, we'd rather you hadn't bought all the equipment yet.

Bring us the idea, the problem, the sketch on the back of an envelope, whatever you've got.

We'll start there.

Let's talk.

Every project starts somewhere.

If you've got an idea, a problem, a place or simply a question, tell us a little about it.

You don't need a specification or a finished plan. That's rather the point.

We'll start with a conversation and see where it takes us.

Visitors by appointment.
